Coventry Half Marathon looks set to be a record-breaker with more than 3,000 runners now signed up for the annual race.

And there’s still time for more people to register for the 13.1-mile race around the city, which takes place on Sunday March 1, as registration remains open until the start of next week.

Last year’s event saw 2,003 runners take part, so organisers at GO2 are delighted to see the half marathon’s popularity growing each year.

Jamie Warren, head of marketing and commercial at GO2, said: “We typically see a peak in entries during the final week before entries closing and we are expecting these numbers to continue to grow as we head into February.

If you have been toying with the idea, we would urge runners to sign up in the coming days, as we cannot accept any registrations after this date. We would hate for anyone to miss out.

“And it’s not only the main race that has enjoyed a phenomenal level of interest. Our Schools Challenge programme has now exceeded 900 entries, which has trebled in size since 2014. “The growing interest in Coventry Half Marathon indicates that we could be on for a very special race indeed.”

The race, which is sponsored by sports store Decathlon, will start and finish alongside Coventry Transport Museum, right next to the Race Village which will be situated in Millennium Place.

Runners will take a loop of the city centre on closed roads before heading out through Radford and on towards Allesley, before heading back to the city centre.

Coun Abdul Khan, cabinet member with responsibility for sport and events, said: “The half marathon has become firmly established in the city’s calendar and it continues to attract more people each year.

“Running participation levels in the UK continue to grow and we want to provide runners with a first-class event in our city, cheered on by the enthusiastic Coventry public. It’s really exciting to hear that we have already received over 3000 entries.”
